The Anti-Scam Merch Clan.

I've always enjoyed playing Runescape, and I've always been wealthy in the game because I mined a lot of Runite Ore. Merchanting was never appealing to me in the past, because of all the standing around the banks yelling out your sell offers.

In the past, I made a lot of Merchanters rich. I had no patience for dickering about prices, and would always pay top dollar for items so I could get on with skilling.  I felt good to know my merch buddy would be standing at the banks buying spending his time buying coal in 100 lots, so he would have 10k coal on-hand - just for me.  And I could spend my time leveling.

But now with the Grand Exchange - the game of merchanting on Runescape is much different - and very exciting to me! It's a little 'unknown' to look forward to each day.

Growing Gold

About 6 months ago, while I wasn't even playing Runescape, I started to dabble with Merchanting a few items in the Grand Exchange.  I would login for 10 minutes about once per week and check prices... and that would be it.

My cash started to grow, and I spent a bit more time at it.

Then I sold my Santa Hat, and started to Merch a bit more seriously.

What Is A Merch Clan?

As I started spending more time around the GE - I started to notice the Merch Clans advertising. It was immediately clear to me that they were quazi-scam groups that were making BIG bucks from everyone else's inexperience with the workings of a stock exchange.

I Saw The Rip-Offs Unfold

The Clan Chats were still new to me, and I hadn't looked to see how it worked yet,  so I wasn't following Clan the timing of Clan 'buy orders' and 'dump prices' - but I was watching the charts, and listening to what people were yelling out around the GE.

At first it was puzzling to me that some obscure item would suddenly be in hot demand.  Everyone was clamoring to buy gold necklaces?  wtf?

I watched as prices rose and I crafted up a few hundred and sold them at max price - while shaking my head...

A week later, the prices had stopped rising - then they suddenly crashed. The very thing I was expecting -came to pass. And no-one could sell any of their gold necklaces - for days and days...

The GE was littered with people unable to sell thousands and thousands of these useless junk items they had just purchased last week for a much higher price.

Against My Rules

In the beginning, I always wanted to try trading with a Merch Clan, but every time they change to a new item - the Grand Exchange price charts for that item was not giving me any 'buy signals'.

Because of my prior education with trading commodities  in the real world - I have a trading system, or a set of trading rules that experience has taught me to believe in - so I always passed on following the Clan's Merch item, and traded based on my own ideas, while watching the Merch Clan's over my shoulder...

I Knew I Could Help

With years of website building experience, an education in Commodities Trading and an army of unemployed Runescape Noobs who are all Merching and growing their cash - the idea wasn't long in forming.

LumbridgeCity.com was re-created in June of 09, and while it gathered the names of over 500 interested people by the middle of September 09, Linkbuilder and my other merch characters grew their wealth substantially.

Practice Videos

As the wealth of my characters continues to climb, My YouTube Channel on Runescape Merchanting has proven to be a great place to hone my skills on amateur video making.

This has lead to a unique way of  teaching about how to successfully merchant on the GE.
